So went to Landmark Theaters in West LA last night for a very cool early screening of this new film Let the Right One In

Did a little research online and learned...
a) it's Swedish
b) it's about a vampire

So.... Not being one for vampire stuff, i realized this movie was either going to suck big time or be completely awesome!

19 years in coma

A Pole who spent 19 years in a coma has woken up and will now have to adapt to a country where the communists are no longer in power, a television station announced Friday.

Railwayman Jan Grzebski fell into a coma after he was hit by a train in 1988, the private channel Polsat said.

In an interview, Grzebski said that he owed his survival to his wife, Gertruda.

"She's the one who always took care of me. She saved my life," he said.

Grzebski was a father of four at the time of the accident. He is now making the acquaintance of 11 grandchildren.

(05-21) 18:05 PDT Huntington, W.Va. (AP) --Michael Lusher apparently is a sound sleeper. A small-caliber bullet struck the 37-year-old Altizer man in the head as he slept Sunday morning, but he didn't realize it until he awoke nearly four hours later and noticed blood coming from his head, said Cpl. R.H. McQuaid of the Cabell County Sheriff's Department.

The bullet that struck him was one of five that someone sprayed across his mobile home and truck at about 4:20 a.m. Sunday, McQuaid said. The one the struck Lusher apparently lost velocity as it traveled through two walls.

"We're just glad he didn't suffer any life-threatening injuries with a head wound," he said.

Lusher came home from a night on the town about an hour before he was shot while lying in bed, McQuaid said.

He remained hospitalized at St. Mary's Medical Center on Monday. His condition was not immediately available. Source:SFGate.com

Starbucks Record Label Brewing

Coffee retailer Starbuck is hoping it can get its buyers as addicted to its music as it can its java.

The Seattle-based coffee chain is looking to launch Hear Music Records in conjunction with Concord Music, according to The New York Post. The label looks to follow the success of coffee-shop distribution that's placed albums by everyone from The Decemberists to Ray Charles in Starbucks' chains across North America and made the chain a favorite music-shopping spot for programmers of the local NPR affiliate.

Although Starbucks hasn't revealed plans to unveil the label yet, the Post claims it's gunning to release Paul McCartney's next solo album as the debut for the grande-sized label.

German man chainsaws house in two in divorce split

BERLIN (Reuters) A 43-year-old German decided to settle his imminent divorce by chainsawing a family home in two and making off with his half in a forklift truck.

Police in the eastern town of Sonneberg said on Friday the trained mason measured the single-storey summer house -- which was some 8 meters (26 feet) long and 6 meters wide -- before chainsawing through the wooden roof and walls.

"The man said he was just taking his due," said a police spokesman. "But I don't think his wife was too pleased."

After finishing the job, the man picked up his half with the forklift truck and drove to his brother's house where he has since been staying.

Wired Iraqi man triggers scare at L.A. airport

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - An Iraqi national wearing wires and concealing a magnet inside his rectum triggered a security scare at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday but officials said he posed no apparent threat.

The man, identified by law enforcement officials as Fadhel al-Maliki, 35, set off an alarm during passenger screening at the airport early on Tuesday morning.

A police bomb squad was called to examine what was deemed a suspicious item found during a body cavity search of the man. Local media reports said a magnet was found in his rectum.

"He was secreting these items in a body cavity and that was a great concern because there were also some electric wires associated with that body cavity," Larry Fetters, security director for the Transportation Security Administration at the airport, told reporters.

Maliki, 35, who lives in Atlantic City, New Jersey, was preparing to board a US Airways flight from Los Angeles to Philadelphia.

MAYNARDVILLE, Tenn. — Four special ed students in a drama class at Union County High School were caught recently trying to make a porn movie between classes.

A male student served as the camera operator. Another was the MC. And a group of four female students stripped down to their underwear.

The students' drama teacher walked in, caught them and immediately reported it to the principal.

Some of the students are special education students so their punishments vary. But all were suspended for at least two to three days.

Teacher cuts off noisy student's tongue

Milan - A teacher in Italy has been suspended by her school in Milan after cutting off the tongue of a lively 7-year-old child with a pair of scissors, daily Corriere della Sera reported Tuesday.

The boy has since had his tongue stitched back but is afraid to go back to school. His parents say he suffers nightmares and runs away whenever he sees a knife. They are now suing the school for damages.

According to Corriere, the 22-year-old substitute teacher threatened the child twice with a pair of scissors before actually chopping it off.

'Pull out your tongue. I'll cut it, and you'll no longer talk,' she was quoted as telling the child.

The teacher, who has only been identified by her initials R S, has since apologized, claiming it was an accident.

The school's principal, Anna Maria Dominici, has suspended the teacher and ordered an investigation, saying her conduct could in no way be excused.

A Florida middle school principal is charged with possession of cocaine and soliciting to purchase cocaine on school property.

The felony carries a minimum sentence of three years in prison.

Police say Anthony Giancola, principal of Tampa's Van Buren Middle School, was arrested in the school lobby Thursday after buying 20 dollars' worth of crack from an undercover officer while students were on campus.

Gunman kills 2 clowns in Colombian circus

BOGOTA, Colombia (Reuters) -- Two clowns were shot and killed by an unidentified gunman during their performance at a traveling circus in the eastern Colombian town of Cucuta, police said Wednesday.

The gunman burst into the Circo del Sol de Cali on Monday night and shot the clowns in front of an audience of 20 to 50 people, local police chief Jose Humberto Henao told Reuters.

One of the clowns was killed instantly, and the second died the next day in hospital.

"The killings had nothing to do with the show the victims were performing at the time of the incident," Henao said in a telephone interview. "We are investigating the motive."

One audience member told BigBigNews, "There's a definite lesson to be learned from this. Never bring a pie to a gunfight."

MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (AP)— An airline pilot from Maplewood won a $25,000 lottery jackpot two days in a row. Raymond Snouffer Jr. matched the winning numbers 11-14-23-26-31 to win Saturday's Northstar Cash drawing with odds of about 170,000 to 1, Minnesota Lottery officials said.

On Sunday, Snouffer stuck with 11 and switched to 3-7-19-28 and won again.

Lottery officials said such a sequence was so farfetched that the odds against it were "virtually incalculable."

Footage of four women goading toddlers to fight has "stunned" police and social services in the UK.

The seven-minute footage, filmed at a house by one woman, was shown in a case at Plymouth Magistrates' Court.

In the clip, a boy wearing a nappy was called a "wimp" for not hitting a girl back after she struck him in the face.

Four women admitted child cruelty charges and were released on bail on Wednesday. Det Sgt Andy Kings said the police had been "shocked" by the case.

Dutch School Teaches Arts and Coffin Crafts

Amsterdam - A Dutch primary school teacher who is dying of cancer is overseeing one last project among her beloved pupils - they are making a coffin for her.

Eri van den Biggelaar, 40, has just a few weeks left to live after being diagnosed last year with an aggressive form of cervical cancer. Always popular at school, she asked the arts and crafts teacher to build a casket for her.

'Why don't you let the children make it?' replied her colleague and woodwork teacher Erik van Dijk.

Now the youngsters, who normally plane wood for baskets and placemats, are putting the finishing touches to what will be the final resting place for Miss Biggelaar. The children have sawed more than one hundred narrow little boards and glued them together, and only the lid needs to be done now.

Three Manchester Boots pharmacies will sell the prescription-only medication made by U.S. drugs group Pfizer in a pilot program from February 14.

Men aged between 30 and 65 suffering from erectile dysfunction will be able to buy four Viagra pills for 50 pounds ($97) without having to get a prescription from a doctor first.

Menotti said she believed the two, almost certainly a man and a woman although that needs to be confirmed, died young because their teeth were mostly intact and not worn down.

Other experts argue that they appear to choking each other, which has led some to think that the couple may have been married.

Million Dollar Mirror Broken

CHINA -- A 2,500-year-old mirror worth £500,000 was dropped and smashed on a Chinese TV show.

A model was showing the ancient mirror to the audience when it slipped from her hands and fell to the floor. It shattered into pieces, shocking the audience - especially owner Chen Fengjiu who was sitting in the front row.

It was gold plated, embedded with 11 turquoise stones and the whole body was coated with intricate carvings.

The host of the show immediately canceled the rest of the program after the accident and the producer said he would seek expert help to repair the mirror.

According to Chinese folklore, breaking a mirror of such quality can bring so much bad luck as to even cause a model to look ugly in a photo taken before it is broken.

Teen assaults officer with colostomy bag.

MILWAUKEE, WI -- A teenager stopped by a police officer at Milwaukee's Grand Avenue Mall as a suspected truant became disruptive and threw his colostomy bag at the officer, department spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz said this morning.

The officer was responding to a truancy complaint at the downtown mall Monday at 1:17 p.m. and stopped the youth, who refused to tell the officer his name or age, she said. The suspect then became disruptive and threw his colostomy bag containing bodily waste at the officer.

In speaking with BigBigNews, Schwartz said that the department has a strict policy of "not taking any shit" from truant students.

Woman Becomes Quadruple Amputee After Giving Birth

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Sanford mother says she will never be able to hold her newborn because an Orlando hospital performed a life-altering surgery and, she claims, the hospital refuses to explain why they left her as a multiple amputee.

The woman filed a complaint against Orlando Regional Healthcare Systems, she said, because they won't tell her exactly what happened. The hospital maintains the woman wants to know information that would violate other patients' rights.

Claudia Mejia gave birth eight and a half months ago at Orlando Regional South Seminole. She was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando where her arms and legs were amputated. She was told she had streptococcus, a flesh eating bacteria, and toxic shock syndrome, but no further explanation was given.

The hospital, in a letter, wrote that if she wanted to find out exactly what happened, she would have to sue them.

BigBigNews spoke with the husband about the incident, "I've heard that having kids can cost an arm and a leg" he said, "but this is ridiculous".

Thai's Taste for Toilet Water

Thailand: Giving a whole new spin on "praying to the porcelain god," scores of villagers in Phrae were given a gut-wrenching shock when a “holy” spring they had prayed to and drunk from turned out to be the result of faulty plumbing rather than a gift from the gods.

The font was discovered on January 4 by Anong Kwanphetch, 52, in the middle of her lawn in Tambon Mae Jua, Denchai District. Noticing something unusual, she went to investigate and discovered water bubbling up from the ground. When she poked around to try and find the source of the water, it began to flow out even stronger than before. Amazed, she rushed to tell the neighbors about her discovery.

K. Anong thought the spring might somehow be connected to a vision she had the night before. Her late maternal grandmother had appeared to her in her sleep, saying she felt ill and needed paracetamol. When Anong returned from fetching the medicine, her grandmother had vanished.

Thinking that perhaps her grandmother’s apparition was a hint that water from the spring could be carrying magical powers, Anong brought out flowers, candles and joss sticks to worship the spring, asking it to provide water for her to keep as a cure-all potion.

News travels quickly in rural Thai villages, and before long word of the phenomenon had spread throughout the district and into neighboring ones. One neighbor, 66-year-old Thongin Konsin, said she had to wait in line for her chance to collect some of the miraculous elixir.

Like many others, she offered candles, incense, flowers and a 20-baht note. She was convinced that holy water was bound to be a gift from on high sent to reward their merit making and heal the infirmities of poor villagers whose conditions had not been healed by the government’s 30-baht health care scheme.

The crowds around the spring grew quickly as some 1,000 villagers rushed to collect bottles of the bubbling broth. When some villagers called for the spring to perform a miracle and send forth bubbles, it immediately responded and answered their pleas.

Word of the find soon spread to district authorities and before long Senior Administrative Officer Rasi Srithammarat and Suthat Samon of the Denchai Public Health Office came to investigate. Unable to stop the villagers from acting on their beliefs, they allowed them to continue collecting the water but implored them to boil it before drinking.

K. Rasi decided to wait until crowds thinned before digging to find the source of the water. If they dug while there were still many people wanting to collect the water and the water stopped flowing, he said, it could cause an even bigger problem.

The next group to arrive at the spring were Public Health Officers from Somdej Phrayupharach Hospital. When they tried to collect a sample of the water, the spring suddenly stopped and the ground became dry. Finally the officers had to beg a sample from one of the villagers. After about 20 minutes, the water began to flow again, leaving villagers suspicious that the officials’ attempts to collect a sample had angered some deities.

Surin Niphayothin, Kamnan (tambon chief) of Mae Jua, finally got to the bottom of things. He and a group of villagers began digging for the source of the mysterious liquid and soon found a small, leaky PVC pipe. On further investigation, K. Surin found that the pipe led straight to the old toilet of a house no more than four meters away.

When villagers who had been drinking the “holy” water learned its true source, scores of them joined in a large mass vomiting session.

The owners of the pipe said they had been installing a new toilet and that the plumbing work must have caused the sewerage pipe to crack. They said they had no idea their old toilet could have been the source of the “holy” spring.

Montel Williams' psychic pal Sylvia Browne told the family of missing Shawn Hornbeck, who was found alive this week, that he was dead shortly after the Missouri boy vanished. The popular TV clairvoyant appeared on the "Montel Williams Show" in February 2003, four months after Shawn disappeared, and told Pam and Craig Akers she believed their son was "no longer with us."

Pamela Rogers "blows it" again...

Former school teacher Pamela Rogers has been handed an additional two years for sending nude photos of herself to a 13 year old male student she was convicted of having sex with. Rogers was on probation at the time.
